Finite- and Fixed-Time Nonovershooting Stabilizers and Safety Filters by Homogeneous Feedback

Non-overshooting stabilization is a form of safe control where the setpoint chosen by user at boundary set. In this paper we develop homogeneous feedback laws for fixed-time nonovershooting nonlinear systems that are input-output linearizable with full relative degree, i.e., diffeomorphically equivalent to chain integrators. These can also assume secondary role ‘fixed-time safety filters’ (FxTSf filters) which keep system within closed set all time but, in case user's nominal commands approach unsafe set, allow reach no later than desired independent and value state begins be overridden.

We consider the use of linear multivariable feedback control to achieve a nonovershooting step response. A method is given for designing an LTI state feedback controller to asymptotically track a constant step reference with no overshoot and arbitrarily small rise time. A controller is shown to exist, universal for the family of all systems of fixed dimension n, and m controls, which stabilizes those systems that are stabilizable, if certain gains are large enough.
